My foundational training is in naturopathic medicine, and I graduated from Bastyr University in 1991 (when it was still John Bastyr College) with a special concentration in Naturopathic Counseling. I completed two years of general practice residency at the Natural Health Clinic of Bastyr University.
During the introductory course in Oriental Medicine required for all naturopathic medical students, I was enchanted by the profound and poetic wisdom of Chinese medicine philosophy and practice. After finishing my naturopathic training I went on to study at the NW Institute of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NIAOM), and in Bastyr University's Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine program, and have been a licensed acupuncturist since 1995.
I have been an adjunct faculty member at Bastyr since 1994, teaching in the Naturopathic Philosophy track and the integrative medicine "CAM Camp" (see http://www.bastyr.edu/camsummer/), and I served as Assistant Dean in the School of Naturopathic Medicine for two years.
My particular therapeutic approach blends Western and classical Chinese botanical (herbal) medicine with dietary and digestive support, acupuncture and Acutonics™ (which uses sound and vibration instead of acupuncture needles), relaxation and restoration practices, the easing of the stress response, and gentle on-going coaching in healthy lifestyle and attitudinal choices/changes. The combination of acupuncture and naturopathic medicine is often helpful in the treatment of all kinds of pain, stress and anxiety, sleep disorders and fatigue, as well as for addressing other systemic dysfunctions including digestive, lung and sinus, menstrual and other gynecological ailments.
I also offer "Constitutional Facial Renewal™" protocols, which include individualized combinations of luscious topical applications of Western and Chinese herbal skin teas, masques, organic creams, essential oils, and hydrosols with acupuncture, Acutonics™ and microcurrent stimulation. Together these deeply nourish Qi, Blood, and Essence for the nurturance of radiance and vitality.
My primary aspiration as a practitioner, drawing from the "inner tradition" of Chinese medicine, is to be a vessel for "life to cultivate life": to soothe suffering, foster vitality and longevity, and to support the development of wisdom.
I live in Seattle with my lovely husband and two sons, and tend a garden full of flowering vines, dwarf fruit trees and rampant lemon balm. When not in clinic, I give much of my time to exploring the healing and transformative power of conversation circles both face-to-face and on-line, and am engaged in ongoing learning and spiritual practice with Rabbi Ted Falcon and the Bet Alef Meditative Synagogue community.
