I am currently a student studying Law at the Florida State University, in Columbia, Missouri. I have been taking my classwork for all of one month as part of our course requirements and will be presenting it to an audience in Boston entitled ““Public Administration and Public Policy” on December 9th 2020. As you may already know, I am interested in pursuing two career paths. One is law (legal work) and one is public service (political and civic work), both of which use up some of my free time.
This project will help me understand how these careers intersect with each other. For example, the legal work would require more analytical thinking and reasoning, while social issues would require a higher degree in understanding political issues. Furthermore, they are both about communication and interaction between different groups, so that makes them really interesting! However, in this case, I will only focus on the legal part.
My goal is to not only write down all of the main points I could remember from my reading, but also show how these three fields connect together. The way lawyers would analyze court cases, public officials being sued and what their responsibilities are. I believe it will be helpful to understand how people could make better decisions and better laws if they were taught by someone who knows everything about the topic.
So, I would like to take this opportunity to highlight all three parts of public administration and public policy. Firstly, the system of higher education. Then I will talk about the American system. Finally, the role of teachers, particularly college professors and university administrators, in ensuring a good and effective learning environment where students can learn efficiently, effectively and productively. Then I will show some examples and examples of things that teachers and universities can do to provide a positive learning atmosphere. We may not know everything, so we should educate ourselves on something, however just knowing a little bit will give us enough strength and confidence to accomplish our goals.
The system of higher education is a lot wider than we think. If we look at the structure of all governmental institutions, what they all basically have are colleges/schools. They form the basic elements of how society functions. According to Wikipedia, “The United States has approximately 20,000 colleges and universities” (Bureau of Labor Statistics). There are many universities in America, including Harvard and Yale Universities. Some colleges are private ones, such as Clark Atlanta University in Georgia. Even though there are private universities, these are generally not quite as large as those on public.
They mostly deal with individual courses, rather than the general public, which isn’t always needed. It depends, for instance, on your major field and level(s) of study. Here, for high school graduates, a majority decide to go into one or several fields. These kinds of schools are commonly smaller and have fewer classes. Colleges and universities typically enroll around 30% to 40% of U.S. residents. Since most of people who come here are looking to get jobs or get away from home, most of their time is spent here. Those are also known as community colleges and colleges.
Depending on your field of study, either these types of colleges or community colleges are where you may want to go for college. The government is always trying to find ways to attract talent and keep the people employed. Since its inception, the Federal Government has committed $700 million to research and development initiatives and created millions of new federal funds in support of advanced facilities, skills development and educational programs.
These include teaching and training in science, technology, engineering and math; social sciences and humanities, medical and health sciences, engineering. They also fund grants to aid college students to further their knowledge and pursue their interests. To date, there are about 2,400 colleges in the United States. But according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, “more than 4,000 community colleges and 600 graduate schools of social work are now offering doctoral degrees” (BLS). Since they are not necessarily private, they are not as expensive as private ones, and since most of the funding comes from state governments, they tend to be less prestigious. Additionally, while it would be beneficial to anyone to attend some colleges with a strong reputation among peers and professionals, this is not necessary.
Most public colleges and universities are considered “selective” because of the quality of their professors and educational programs. Since these schools are meant to be places to learn, they have more rigorous academic requirements and curriculums and are usually less accessible. Also, because universities tend to be less selective than community colleges, schools here tend to cost more. Therefore, most students pay out of pocket to either attend or attend private universities. And although there are many private universities that offer great courses in economics and law, there are so much competition with traditional universities, they often only enroll students with the same GPA and no interest in any other subject.
Public schools and universities also operate in very different environments. There are about 17,500 American public K-12 schools across the country, all affiliated with a local school district. That makes sense considering all the money coming in. You can get your diploma of your Bachelor’s Degree of Arts or your Master’s Degree of your Ph.D. What that does is it gives you an excuse to apply for higher and better paying jobs and further your education. Also, since most of people are working full time, they can take multiple courses at once, which means they don’t need a certificate of completion of one, another one, or even the fourth.
Many colleges and universities here offer flexible schedules of study that allows students to choose their own pace. And depending on the program and course, one of these options are sometimes covered. Just to let you imagine, if you wanted to start an Engineering Career, you can apply for your Certificate right now. Or if you plan on getting a master’s degree in Economics, then you can start a Business Management Programme and then apply for your Certificate a month or two later. There is a lot more flexibility with these schools when it comes to what you have to pay for. Not to mention how many programs are offered for students who want to continue with their studies after passing their degree at a particular institution and why.
And here, again, there is more flexibility. An undergraduate degree doesn’t give you much freedom as far as employment opportunities are concerned. With no certification, you would likely struggle to get a position any day with no experience. Especially if the job was not related to your majors. So, the only option to gain experience without a degree is to pass a few internships. It is much easier said than done to get hired. Plus, there is no guarantee with anything. Also, there are certain factors in these internship programs that make them less desirable. Because to be honest, there are more experienced and qualified applicants who do not have to pass through this phase. When it comes to internships, you are given lots of work to accomplish and then they want new faces.
No matter how hard you try, it is pretty much impossible to pass the first round of interviewing. Plus, this process is a very long process and they will not always grant you the contract. Another reason to pass these internships is so they can see how well you can perform in that field. Though it is possible, interns and volunteers are much cheaper and thus people prefer to hire people who are willing to pass the interview. A small price to pay so you can work with more experienced individuals. So, yes, you will get lots of experience without having to finish your degree.
Yet many companies still refuse to hire an employee who doesn’t have at least half a dozen professional certifications to back them up. While your qualifications are important, if you are just passing an interview, you are just going to fail. Also, if you want to become an accountant in New York City, not everyone has a BA. In fact, about 50% of workers in New York are trained as lawyers by default as opposed to Bachelors or Masters.
But the percentage of professionals qualified as lawyers is also fairly small. Moreover, one can only complete a Bachelors Degree with a minimum of 60 credits, which is nearly twice as many as an MBA. So, a bachelor’s degree barely qualifies one to consider for business positions and many financial firms won’t hire an accountant unless you have 3 years of specialized Credential. Yes, there are a lot more jobs in accounting and finance. This makes the salary attractive for top-level officers and executives. People want highly skilled people and so these roles are scarce.
Hence people have learned in order to retain talent and keep employees. So basically, you can say the demand for these roles are pretty high. And as more professionals join, the salaries increase. There is nothing wrong in that except many people just do not want to be associated with this kind of career path. So, if you want to go to be an Accountant or maybe a Financial Analyst in London, these days the required requirements are quite easy to obtain. So, a person can get the credentials required for a Bachelors Degree and a year of experience in Accounting or Finance.
They also need a Diploma in General Studies and if you are doing a PhD, a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 10 credit hours. Basically, you need 1–4 years of experience, with an impressive GPA and then a degree of either Mathematics or English. In addition, for a Master’s Degree in this discipline, it takes 6 years of your studies. After all, most people who do MSW have 12–16 years of formal education and about 15–17 years of practical experience.
Again, you have to take a few weeks off to prepare the thesis, which is usually a combination of researching and communicating the idea of their dissertation to the world by writing a draft and proofreading it. Along with the thesis, you have to pass a written exam along
